Fighter

Fighter

Change is constant and in policing it is rapid. This period of change for me seems and is a significant leap from my work normal to non police Emily. I am really excited and can't wait.
Clearly this is a time of reflection and it seems I have been fighting all my life,

1, Fighting to recover from all those ear operations.  Starting with gromits to pioneering use of pigs skin for my new ear drums along with a few scares of anaphylactic shock to facial paralysis.

2, Fighting the courts for victims. Very proud of my 100% conviction rate in crown court.

3, Actually fighting criminals.

4, Fighting to have my daughter ( several drugs were needed to make the magic happen).

5, Fighting for promotion after spending my first ten years in policing saying I am never going for promotion and I want to stay focused helping the important people.. the public.

6, Fighting for equality for women as the first deputy chair of the new womens network to several years later becoming the chair of the disability network.

7, Not forgetting the biggest fight, the identification, the acceptance ( this was really hard) and recovery from complex post traumatic stress.

So I am changing my focus and will try to just enjoy the 800km, I don't need to fight anymore. I am lucky enough to have my daughter, my hubby, my house, my dogs, so I can now stand down and hopefully I can just enjoy the journey. Although this won't stop me trying to beat my hubby up the mountain.

Absolutely, it's time to hang up the gloves and instead enjoy the ride and no doubt the amazing views you will enjoy. What an amazing journey you are going to have, physically, mentally and spiritually - good luck!
